One Law Partners, LLC (Managing Partners Ki-Won Yoon, You-Jung Lee, and Kyung-Hwan Kim) and the Korea In-House Counsel Association will host a seminar titled “Changes in Criminal Practice and Corporate Response Strategies” on November 9 at 3:30 p.m. at the Event Hall on the 3rd Floor of POSCO Center Yeoksam.

With the abolition of the Prosecutors’ Office and the launch of the Serious Crimes Investigation Office (JCIO) and the Public Prosecution Office on October 2, Korea’s criminal justice system has undergone a comprehensive restructuring, marking the most significant change since the enactment of the Criminal Procedure Act in 1954. Investigations conducted by Special Judicial Police Officers affiliated with government agencies, including the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Ministry of Environment, are also being strengthened.

In response, One Law Partners, LLC and the Korea In-House Counsel Association have organized this seminar to share key institutional changes and response strategies with in-house counsel and corporate legal and compliance professionals.

In the first session, Chang-Kuk Lim, Attorney, former Deputy Chief Prosecutor at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office and former Chief Prosecutor at the Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office, will deliver a presentation titled “Understanding the New Investigative System and Corporate Response Strategies.” Attorney Lim will provide practical insights into changes in the investigative environment resulting from the launch of the JCIO and other criminal justice reforms, major criminal risks companies should monitor, and effective response strategies.

The second session will feature Byoung-Ho Son, Attorney, a graduate of the Korean National Police University who previously served in the Investigation Division of Dongjak Police Station and the National Police Agency’s Voice Phishing Task Force and currently serves as an advisor to the National Police Officers Association. He will present on “Everything In-House Counsel Need to Know About Police Investigations.” Attorney Son will discuss investigative procedures and characteristics, response strategies at each stage of an investigation, and practical considerations that companies should review in advance.

In the third session, In-Sun Go, Attorney, a former prosecutor who is active in the fields of AI, data, and corporate regulation, will present on “The Special Judicial Police Investigation System and Corporate Response Strategies.” Attorney Go will examine the authority of Special Judicial Police Officers and recent investigative trends and will outline corporate response measures in connection with expanding investigations in areas such as fair trade, environmental regulation, industrial technology, and personal information protection.

Following the presentations, a networking and Q&A session will provide an opportunity for corporate professionals and in-house counsel to discuss the evolving investigative environment and explore practical response strategies.

You-Jung Lee, Managing Partner, commented, “The abolition of the Prosecutors’ Office and the separation of investigative and prosecutorial functions have significantly changed the nature of the criminal procedures that companies face. We hope this seminar will help companies gain an accurate understanding of the new investigative system and the growing role of Special Judicial Police investigations and develop response strategies that can be immediately utilized in times of crisis.”
