One Law Partners, LLC (Managing Partners Ki-Won Yoon and Yoo-jung Lee) announced that Attorney Jeong-woo Kang has published Conditions of Defense Export Contracts: Contract Practice in International Defense Transactions for Exports and Procurement.

This book is a practical guide that analyzes the legal and contractual risks arising in international defense transactions, which have been increasing alongside the rapid expansion of K-defense exports in the global market, and systematically organizes the key contractual provisions that should be carefully reviewed in defense export transactions. In particular, it broadly addresses major issues that may arise throughout the entire process of international defense transactions, including Incoterms® 2020, governing law and the CISG (United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods), letters of credit and independent bank guarantees, export controls, offset transactions, technology transfer, and integrated logistics support.

Through his litigation and advisory work in the defense acquisition and national defense sectors, Attorney Jeong-woo Kang has repeatedly observed cases in which Korean companies and institutions, despite possessing world-class technologies and competitiveness, suffered unexpected disputes and losses because they overlooked the importance of contract design. Accordingly, he wrote this book not merely as a guide to drafting contracts, but as a resource to convey the principles of designing contractual provisions that can prevent and effectively manage the risks actually encountered in defense export transactions.

In particular, the book goes beyond theoretical explanations of individual contractual provisions by introducing not only decisions of the Supreme Court of Korea and lower Korean courts, but also significant cases from the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, and the Court of Justice of the European Union, enabling readers to understand defense contract practice from an international perspective. The book also includes a variety of practical materials, such as sample defense export agreements, step-by-step checklists, and a glossary of English contract expressions, allowing corporate practitioners and legal professionals to make immediate practical use of its contents.
